The province’s Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development is aiming to ease the application process with changes planned for the Entrepreneur Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
This stream is for entrepreneurs from outside of Canada interested in starting a new business or buying an existing business in Ontario.
It gives an entrepreneur (and up to one foreign national business partner) the opportunity to be nominated for permanent residence once their business has been established in Ontario.
In proposals announced this month, the province says it will:
1) Make video interviews permanent to speed up the arrival of candidates in Canada.
2) Monitor applicants less often, to lighten the burden on applicants as they work on their businesses.
Ontario officials have proposed changes to two immigration regulations: 422/17 (General) and 421/17 (Approvals under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program and Other Matters).
The OINP changes are open to public consultation until 23rd April 2021. Interested individuals are urged to share their insights on these proposed changes.
