In recent months, the UK government has eliminated numerous well-established immigration visa pathways, notably the Tier 1 Investor visa. Last week, they confirmed a new Global Business Mobility category under the Points-based System, which includes many new sub-category visa routes, beginning April 11, 2022.
The UK Expansion Worker visa, which replaces the Sole Representative of an Overseas Business visa, is one of the new immigration routes. Applicants must earn 60 points under the points-based system. These points can be attained in the following manner:
- 20 points for sponsorship,
- 20 points for a job that requires a certain level of ability,
- 20 points if your salary is at the required level.
Senior management and expert personnel who seek to be temporarily allocated to the UK to work on the expansion of a foreign business will be eligible for the UK Expansion Worker Visa. This path does not lead to the status of the settlement.
Applicants for the UK Expansion Worker Visa must currently be employed by a company or organisation that shares common ownership or control with their UK sponsor or by a joint venture on which they are sponsored to work.
They must have worked for the linked business or organisation for a cumulative period of at least 12 months outside of the UK unless they are a high earner earning £73,900 per year or a Japanese national seeking to establish a UK branch or subsidiary of the linked business or organisation under the UK-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Applicants must also have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship for the job they wish to do, which an employer who the Home Office has approved to sponsor a UK Expansion Worker must be granted. The employment must be an eligible job with a minimum skill level and pay that equals or exceeds £42,400 per year or 100 percent of the pro-rated going rate for the occupation, whichever is higher.
However, there will be no necessity for applicants to speak English.
Permission will be granted for one year after the start date of the job specified in the applicant’s sponsorship certificate, plus 14 days, the date on which the applicant will have continued as a UK extension worker for a total of 2 years, or the date on which They will get cumulative permission in Global Business Mobility routes for a total of 5 years in any 6 year period, whichever is later.
Holders of the Global Business Mobility – UK Expansion Worker Visa will be able to work for their sponsor in the position stated on their Certificate of Sponsorship.
