The President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, has today (18th July 2019) announced in a local press conference that the new government has ‘temporarily’ suspended its Citizenship by Investment (MCBI) programme pending a review.
The programme only launched in November 2018 and the successful completion of the first application from the first 30 received was announced in May 2019. However, the parliamentary elections of February 2019 failed to produce a clear majority and attempts to form a coalition resulted in a constitutional crisis which took until 15th June to resolve, rather than to hold new elections in September.
